Selflove: a buzzword that can contribute to world peace

13. February 2025, Happy Full Moon and Happy Selflove day

I don’t think there is a better day to write about Selflove, than today…

Selflove seems to be a bit of a buzzword that gets thrown around like nothing, but when practiced properly the powers of being your own best friend and cheerleader reach far beyond what the word describes.

As a mental wellbeing coach I see many clients that struggle with self acceptance let alone self love and the ripple effect on their lives is bigger than you would think.

Relationship issues, being stuck in a rut, body image issues or burnout  just to name a few, are often connected to how well we know and love ourselves.

Amazingly once this block is cleared and the love juices start flowing magic happens. The ripple effect of love is powerful bringing joy and abundance and love multiplied with it.

I would even go as far as to claim that if we were all truly in tune and in love with ourselves we would have a great amount of peace in this world.

Self love doesn't come easy to most people, so if you are one of them don’t be disheartened, you are not alone!

Some people even try to avoid it at all cost; it’s much easier to love someone else than showing affection and love to yourself, isn't it?

But as Eric Fromm summed up so perfectly: “Love of others and love of ourselves are not alternatives”.

We cannot truly love others if we don’t love ourselves first.

You might think - well that’s really nice, but I don't even know how to accept myself fully.

The good news is, you can practise self care and it will grow into self love. If you are curious, let's give it a go.

Here are 5 simple inspirations that you can do to fall in love with yourself a little more day by day and contrary to what you might think these things do not translate into long (and pricey) spa treatments, mani-pedis or massages and extravagant holidays; no, self love doesn't need to cost a thing, all the loving is already within you, you just need to find a way to access it.

You can start giving yourself a little love everyday by:

  1. Spending time with yourself (the options are endless, I let you choose how)

  2. Tapping into what brings you joy and doing more of that (especially today and then every day from here onwards)

  3. Setting boundaries and putting yourself first (no, that is not selfish, it is self care)

  4. Journaling on your superpowers and what you value about yourself (go on, I know you want to)

  5. Checking in with your dreams and goals

And if you struggle to access the love fountain you can give yourself the love of bringing in a trained professional in the form of a coach or therapist to help you connect with your true self on your way to contribute to world peace.

Much love to you all

Marisa
