3 easy ways to celebrate winter solstice

Winter Solstice 21st and Full Moon 22nd June 2024

Wow, this full moon is a special one, a full moon within 24 hours of winter solstice.

The magic of the full moon is that of completion, reflecting, recognizing, thanking for what has been in the past month and inviting the new.

Winter Solstice has the same intention, but on a bigger scale reflecting on the year or half year that has been; it also celebrates the balance between darkness and light. On a spiritual level this can be likened to our shadow and our light side.

Living in New Zealand, I love how the winter solstice is also around the same time as the Matariki celebration, the Maori New Year.

All 3 of these significant events combined can only amplify the magic of letting go of the past and inviting new beginnings.

I hereby encourage you all to pause today or tonight and celebrate this special day and night with a small ritual that feels right to you, something that effortlessly slots into your life is the easiest way in my experience.

It doesn't matter what you do on an outward level because as always it comes down to what happens on the inside.

The essence is to consciously say good bye with love and inviting new beginnings with open arms.

Here are 3 ideas that you can make use of but the creativity is all yours:

  1. Journal on it -

  • include saying goodbye to loved ones that might have passed in the last year

  • letting go of things that no longer serve you with gratitude

  • Invite new beginnings. - what is it that you wish for for the next year?

    2. Include the elements

  • Light a fire or candle

  • Have a bath or midwinter swim

  • Put your bare feet into the winter lawn

  • Go for a walk at sunset or sunrise

    3. Create a small ceremony

  • Offerings to your spirit guides (wine, chocolate, flowers, dried herbs, a candle etc.)

  • Clean your crystals in the moonlight

  • Pull an oracle card

  • Dance or sing

  • Create your own affirmation that will help you move forward

Have fun and enjoy, happy solstice and full moon

Much love Marisa
