5 strategies to stay grounded in times of chaos
I am dedicating this month’s blog to my dear Cat “Chat” (french for cat) who passed away on the 11th of this month after being my loyal companion for over 13 years.
After all he taught me so much about staying zen, so this one's for you Chat.
The last month has been chaotic in our house, there were broken appliances, a broken car, one of my kids involved in a bike vs car accident, the death of a loved pet and also extreme highs such as a very successful first retreat. I had to dig deep into my own tools to stay grounded in these times of chaos and I would like to share some of them with you in this month’s blog:
Know how to deal with stress and work on your stress resilience (this is a large topic and something we covered well in our retreat)
Keep rituals going - by rituals I mean little habits that represent safety and stability in your life
i.e. morning yoga or pilates, a cup of coffee in peace, journaling, going for a walk, your regular exercise routine etc. read more about rituals here
Allow your emotions to move through your body .
try this: when something really sucks, allow yourself 5 minutes to rant - or journal about it, then consciously shift your focus on how to move forward
Perspective - sometimes when we are in times of chaos we tend to catastrophize or get overwhelmed, I find it extremely helpful to look at the situation objectively and to ask myself: “will this situation still be affecting me in 10 months from now, or even in 10 years from now?”
(I find this helpful for things like a broken appliance, while it is annoying it really isn't the end of the world)
Putty vs rocks - ask yourself what is in my control (Putty) and how can I mould it to work for me right now and what is not in my control (rocks) and I need to accept it for what it is?
Let me know your thoughts or any questions you might have,
As always much love to you all
